In 1817, the English forces in the battle of Stabardi, Nagpur defeated Bhosla Raja. Following an agreement reached between the two parties in 1818, the English forces got the rights to deploy their forces in around Nagpur. A group came to Kamptee and camped across the river Kanhan. Initially the Camp was named as Camp “T” and later on it became proper noun as “Kamptee”. The English colonel in charge of the group liked this place and recommended to his superiors to make it a cantonment area, which was accepted. After that, the population of the English forces and civilians started to increase because of business and job opportunities in Kamptee. Englishmen wanted civilian participation in the cantonment area activities and created a Cantonment Board on which Munshi Mohammad Saeed was nominated as the first civilian representatives. In 1962, he was elected as member of the board. Membership of the Cantonment Board was considered as honor in those days. One year later, the civilian affairs part of the board was separated and assigned to a new entity called Kamptee Municipality to handle civic amenities and problem. Munshi Mohammad Saeed was nominated again as member of the Kamptee Municipality. This shows his popularity and acceptance as leader of the Muslim community of Kamptee.
